Applications for our 2018 Cohort 1 closed on Friday, February 23. We are excited to read all the applications from amazing young women around the world with our selection committee.

Our selection committee this time is made up by 42 individuals including our team, board, alumni, coaches, and leaders in the social impact and coaching field.

We are delighted to share the bios of our social impact and coaching expert panel:

Athena Katsaros

Athena’s work is about transformation. She works with leaders who are committed to being catalysts for positive change in their organizations. Through their work with Athena her clients discover their purpose, authentic voice, and vision as a leader. She was a co-founder and board member of Open A Door, a non-profit that brings young women from post-conflict countries to attend US universities and develop leadership skills so they can return home as agents of change. Athena is a board member of The Coaching Fellowship.

Darlene Damm

Darlene Damm is Vice Chair & Principal Faculty of Global Grand Challenges at Singularity University. She has spent nearly two decades leading organizations and initiatives in the field of social innovation. In 2012 she founded DIYROCKETS, the first company to crowdsource space technology, and in 2011 was an early co-founder of Matternet, one of the world’s first companies using drones for commercial transport and delivery of medical goods in the developing world. Darlene served with Ashoka, the world’s largest association of social entrepreneurs for nearly nine years where she built the organization’s fundraising system and led Ashoka’s presence in the Silicon Valley.

Karen Kimsey-House

Karen is one of the earliest recognized luminaries in the coaching profession. She co-founded The Coaches Training Institute (CTI) in 1992, and co-created the Co-Active philosophy that informs CTI’s world-renowned coaching and leadership programs. She also is the co-author of Co-Active Coaching, the best-selling industry bible. Karen founded and directed the Learning Annex San Francisco adult education program. Karen is a prolific author and dynamic keynote speaker — she joins us on a mission of global, transformative change. Karen is a board member of The Coaching Fellowship.

Lisa Mikkelsen

As a member of the human capital team at Omidyar Network, Lisa supports portfolio organizations in the areas of recruitment and talent management. Prior to joining Omidyar Network in 2010, Lisa served as the director of recruiting at technology startup Inflection. Previously, Lisa worked as a recruiting consultant and spent nearly six years at QuinStreet, managing a team of recruiters as the company rapidly scaled.

Trish Tierney

Over the past 20 years, Trish has created partnerships with tech companies, non-profits, foundations and governments to advance women’s leadership and build global networks. Prior to co-founding WAKE, Trish was Executive Director of the Institute of International Education (IIE) in San Francisco. At IIE, Trish led the growth of the office through partnerships with the U.S. Department of State, major foundations, and corporate partners. She is especially proud to have founded IIE’s Center for Women’s Leadership Initiatives.

We are so grateful for our all our selection committee’s support to help us find the next young women social impact leaders who are ready to step deeper into their potential through coaching!
